Campbell Mattinson April 25, 2007
“Fresh, zesty, sensible wine - if you don't like this, then you
just don't like chardonnay. Only a small portion of it went through
malo-lactic fermentation and only a small portion saw new oak - so,
in effect, Margaret River chardonnay, the grape not the man, is on
full show. And a lovely show it is. Pounds of slinky, grapefruity,
pear-like, lemony fruit flavours reach right through the mouth,
finishing with a slightly cedary, cashewy, melony tang. Forget the
components - the wine itself is just delish. 13% alcohol. Love it.
Drink: 2007-2011. 91 points.
Adelaide Advertiser Top 100 91
points “From southwest WA,
this wine caught the judges’ eyes with its chablis-like character
from start to finish, green straw and a fine lemony feel underneath
some melon and peach flavours and a crisp structure adding to its
distinctive style and cool and more-ishly dry
personality..”

Hooke Gourmet Traveller Wine 100 Top New Releases Sept/Oct
issue “The West Australian
chardonnay offers a pungent, grapefruity regional nose with a hint
of gooseberry – very fruit-driven. It’s lean and delicate,
tight and subtle in the mouth, with moderate persistence – 89
points.”
Australian Gourmet
Pages – wine notes by
Franz Scheurer. ‘Hailing from the Wilyabrup Valley, Margaret
River, this is a tightly structured Chardonnay representing both
the terroir and the talents of the wine maker. This wine is a
terrific example of a Chablis-like Chardonnay. With lots of ripe
grapefruit and some orange peel on the nose it convinces with a
creamy mouthfeel, balanced structure and natural, mineral acidity,
making it a definite food wine’.
