Single
Vineyard
Chardonnay
2007/Margaret
River
The
release of this wine celebrates the 77th birthday of
Jeff Moss – co-founder of Moss Brothers with over 50 years in the
wine industry. Moss Brothers was established by the Moss family in
1984 and is one of the oldest family owned wineries in the Margaret
River wine-growing region.
This
is a wine that will develop greater complexity with bottle age –
extra richness. The vineyard produces excellent natural
acidity, good/balanced natural ripeness parameters. The wine
reflects the beautiful Margaret River vintage climate of sunshine
and summer breezes.
Awards/Reviews
2007 SV Chardonnay
*James
Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2010 Highly recommended 93
points “Bright light green; harmonious wine, with fruit and oak
seamlessly married; grapefruit and stone fruit flavours run through
the long palate.”

*Rob
Gough Margaret River Times “In
the heart of Margaret River’s Wilyabrup, Moss Brothers Winery makes
a strong case for single vineyard chardonnay with a wine that is
both reflective of its terroir, and a delightful drink.
Judicious use of oak has allowed the true flavour of Moss Brother’s
chardonnay vineyard to shine through, with pure expressions of
minerality and fruit. Really, well and truly, this wine is
one of the cleanest, most elegant examples of chardonnay from
anywhere, let alone Margaret River, that I have tasted in a long
time”.
Winemaking – ‘cool bunch pressed, juice settled and racked
off most of the gross lees, allowed a small amount of solids into
the juice for some additional depth and complexity. Barrel
Fermented with 75% selected yeast and 25% wild ferment. The
barrel selection process is becoming more refined. Looking
for oak that doesn’t have too much influence on the wine.
Using a combination of new, 1 year and 2 year old Reymond ‘Allier’
and Francoise Feres ‘Vosges’ barrels. The barrels were topped with
yeast lees from other white wine fermentations to increase the
creaminess/enhance the texture’. Natural malo-lactic ferment
helped the wine go through 15% malo- lactic ferment and self
adjusted the wine balance. Too much malo-lactic fermentation
character can dominate the wine and diminish the lovely fruit
characters and may result in a wine that ages too quickly and we
like to avoid this outcome. It’s a fine balance’.
